I am a stranger in this land
And a stranger to myself.
I am not the person I pretend to be;
By my circumstances I’m compelled
To don these manly threads
And lead this secret life.
But how I long to remove this mask
And reveal who I am inside.

I’m in a state of confusion,
A state desperate for his love,
But he loves another
Who seems to dote on me.
