Desolation
By Adan Torres
This is a story many soon may relate
It happened at night, on a cold winter’s day
It was late December when her life began to fade
I knew I would never see her again
What I didn’t know, she’d always be there
The one who made bloke out of me, no longer by my side
I thought of a reason
I was too naive to understand why
But every time I think of her
Her spirit comes to me
As if I could summon her soul into reality
Please forgive me
There is nothing else I can do
Please believe me
I couldn’t go on if I didn’t call upon you
When someone we love dies
They’re no longer by our side
But emptiness caused by their absence
Feels as if we never said goodbye
The presence felt at any given locale
It’s only emptiness that brings her spirit throughout
Please forgive me
There is nothing else I can do
Please believe me
I couldn’t go on if I didn’t call upon you
When someone we love dies
They’re no longer by our side
But emptiness caused by their absence
Feels as if we never said goodbye
A presence more constant than her physical form
Like a steel candle that will always keep me warm
The moon, the flowers, and places visited bring her presence to life
A reminder of you, the one who I’ll always proudly call my wife
