Valentines Day Waltz

By Dave Hanna
Valentines Day Waltz

On a cold winters day
In a small country church
On a hill
Not far from our town

We gathered back then
Before family and friends
To start a new life
On our own

In an old gingham dress
That your Grandmother wore
And me in a suit
Way too small

The old ring that I carried
My Mother had cherished
While you took my hand
As well as my name

The vows that we made
When wedding bells rang
On my favorite Valentines Day

We danced through the night
And I held you so tight
The hours
They fell just like rain

It seemed to me
Just like touching a dream
One I hoped
Never would end

As we rode away
With a song
And a wave
With the little
My brothers had saved

And I watched the sun rise
As I looked in your eyes
With hope and a prayer
And a future to share

The vows that we made
When wedding bells rang
On my favorite Valentines Day
